We went shopping for Melinda's birthday this weekend.

Tried VERY hard not to overbuy - we've been to kid parties where the kid get bored of opening gifts - not a situation we want to find ourselves in. Inspite of our best efforts, we probably still over bought, so in an effort to avoid the boredom problem, we decided to give a gift early.

The gift we selected was a "adult push / kid pedal" big wheel like thing. Figured it was a safe bet - for the last two weeks when ever we take Melinda to the park, she's tried to take advantage of other kids wheeled cars. Giving it early also meant that she could use it for the last month or so of summer.

So after dinner, we assembled it, Melinda clamoring to ride it in the house. Finally, got out to the sidewalk. We figured we'd head to the "Big Park" (Melinda's term) because it's a good far walk - give her pleanty of opportunity to pedal / be pushed. Melinda lost intest in both pedaling and being pushed before we got beyond the sidewalk in front of our yard. So we just went around the block. Tracey and I taking turns pushing the car... Kids!

18 spindles Melinda's dresser shelf has! This weekend I painted the second of Tracey's childhood dressers for Melinda. You'd think going from offwhite to white could be done with a single coat of primer & a single coat of paint. Turns out no. Did I mention 18 tiny awkward spindles?

I also painted the rails of her bed and assembled the bed (instead of just having the mattress on the floor). Melinda's response after the assembly - "Too high!" Hmm, she slept on it last night, but I'm certain that that is not the end of the story.

Melinda is big into language now. She's trying out all the possible combinations of three word sentances she can. "Daddy whack bee!" "Mommy whack bee!" "Abby whack bee!" "Daddy drink milk!" "Mommy drink Milk" "Abby drink Milk!" She's also big into playing house with her little people. We've got eight or so figures (five are favored (if I try to sneak the tow-truck guy - she immediately excludes him)) and they take turns ringing the doorbell, knocking and opening the door.

The dog does all these things too and additionally, barks (woofs) in each window of the house (over and over)

Good week all!
