Carol's Christmas stories

1.  Christmas packages from Milwaukee included Usingers sausages and fruit cakes from aunt olive.
2.  German stollen made by Gertrude, mother loved this every year.
3.  “Mountains bars”, candy sent by uncle art.  Chocolate mountains with white centers.
4. Trip to see Macy’s thanksgiving parade.  Mary took Cathy and carol.  We went to the automat for hot chocolate.  Automats were NYC restaurants where food was in little glass compartments.  These were coin operated.  Really fun.
5. We girls would make snowmen when Long Island got some snow.  The boys, Tom and Mike would have to assemble them cause they were big.
6.  After playing in snow, mittens, gloves and socks were placed on base heaters to dry out.
7.  Percy faiths, “hallelujah chorus “, was the most played Christmas record for all of our Christmas’s.
8.  Every Christmas Eve, we went to midnight mass.  Mothers sang in the choir.  Always a latin high mass, very nice.  They had practiced for months.
9.  Christmas “coty” catalog, received every year.  We got great buys because mother had coty stock.

Remember Christmas window decorations made from “glass wax”. These white decorations were made with stencils. Saw them in stores, schools and homes. Kids loved to do them. Washed off

Gertrude was my mother’s best friend from high school. She moved to San Francisco. We all stayed at her house during Susan’s wedding. Lots of fun. Very German Milwaukee

Memories. Ok the funniest one ever was the Potochney's old toilet placed in their front yard for trash pick up. On a Sunday morning Mike got the morning Boston globe and sat down on the toilet reading the sports page. The story goes that Norm and Ros were going to Sunday mass and saw mike sitting there. Pictures were taken, Hilarious, hilarious.
