Matt's wedding

It was a great wedding. Lots of emotion, lots of dancing. I'll get through the obvious - Debbie was beautiful and Matt was handsome. Great to see family. The Potochneys were there - getting some last minute pointers on what to do and what not to do (Karen's wedding is August 1). Carol's flight got delayed and delayed and finally cancelled. She couldn't get anything that would get her to Newark in time for the Saturday ceremony.

One of the things that I really wanted to do was to have Melinda sit with Grammy. High on everyone's list - except Melinda's. Our timing was just wrong. I think we got a couple good photos inspite of Melinda's crabbiness. Tracey's pretty convinced that Melinda prefers men to women. I think it's just that no other women comes close to Mommy (or Ma, and Melinda likes to say (to everyone)(still no Da)).

Melinda is a such a ham! This weekend, she figured out that when people point cameras at her, her job is to smile. I'm not kidding. Sunday morning at breakfast, Cathy was howling. Ted was holding her (Melinda) and every time Cathy pointed the camera at her, a smile lit up her whole face.

The service was in the courtyard of the hotel - Tracey, Melinda and I took up station in the way back (allowing for quick egress should the need arrise). About half way through, Melinda woke up for real and started talking. Nothing loud (as she is wont to do) but not necessarily the sounds that you want to hear in your wedding ceremony. So we went and stood inside - where everyone wound up filing past after the ceremony. There's nothing like a baby to make you popular. Everyone wants to squeeze her feet and make weird faces at her. She loves it.

Lots of firsts this weekend - first wedding, first big group of people, first time dancing in public and first time swimming. There was an indoor pool, and it was basically empty. I sat with Melinda on the first step, then she stood on the second step. It's so cool to watch her try and figure things out. Initially, she was intimidated. She gets this look in her eye that says, "What is this nut doing?" After 15 minutes or so, I took her out to float. As with most things, once she got used to it, she started having fun.

Sounds to me like Ted and Ann are next. Cathy suggested that since we had most of the important parties, we should just do a double wedding and be done with it.
